This is a typical post-WW-II/1950s King Features Syndicate Popeye cartoon; it disappoints as it no longer has the charmed touch of those delightful 1930's Popeye cartoons made at Max Fleischer's Studios directed by Adolph Zukor. Essentially, 'Ancient Fistory' is a poor remake and rework of Max Fleischer's great classic cartoon of 1934, Betty Boop's 'Poor Cinderella'- In the 1930s Betty Boop and Popeye both came from Fleischer's studios, comparing 'Ancient Fistory' with 'Poor Cinderella' of 18 years earlier it is very easy to see that by 1952 the golden age of the cartoon has passed.
